Casa das Garças is a conservation-orientated lodge, born from a joint initiative of Quirimbas National Park and the Italian Organization Istituto Oikos and funded by the Italian Cooperation.
We support practical initiatives to ensure the protection of the unique environment of the Quirimbas Archipelago in the north of Mozambique. Casa das Garças is not only a guesthouse but also a hub for environmental education and research: a place for travellers and researchers who wish to enjoy and protect biodiversity. We support collaboration between local and international universities, who use the lodge as a base to carry out important work in the archipelago.
Through eco-tourism and cultural exchange we aim to strive for a sincere, mutually beneficial engagement with the local community, working hand in hand with the people who call Ibo home.

Casa das Garças means Herons’ House. These beautiful birds are a constant presence, as the lodge is located within their typical habitat.
It is our greatest privilege, and ultimate goal, to allow our visiting guests from all over the world to enjoy the incredible wilderness and experience the local culture in a responsible manner, preserving the spectacular natural and human heritage of the Quirimbas.

  • We respect the natural environment in which we live and work above all else.
  • We promote educational and training opportunities for the community and the park staff.
  • We invite guests to support sustainable and community based initiatives such as local family restaurants, traditional artisans, and local guides.
